Bhapa ilish is one of the famous Bengali dish which is generally been cooked at every place. Its cooked on stem wit a tangy taste of mustard and green chili.
INGREDIANT:
- 1 Kilogram Hilsa (ilish)
- Salt according to taste
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard powder
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1 inch piece ginger
- 3 tablespoons mustard oil
METHOD:
- Wash the fish well and clean it from inside.
- Cut the fish into darn.
- Sprinkle salt and half of the turmeric powder on it.
- Make a smooth paste of yellow mustard seeds, black mustard seeds, green chilies, ginger and salt.
- Take a pressure cooker and add three cups of water and place a ring in it.
- Take a pan and place the fish in it and place the pan on the ring in the pressure cooker.
- Add the remaining turmeric powder to the prepared paste.
- Now apply the paste generously on fish.
- Pour mustard oil on top of it and adjust the seasoning on it.
- Cover the fish with lid and steam for at least eight to ten minutes.
